How much will it cost me to repair my computer?
This question depends on what is wrong with the computer. Our repair prices are the cheapest – In fact we challenge you to ask around other repair shops and get prices, and then compare us. Our repairs start from as little as 10.00 GPB.
What is your warranty policy on your repairs?
We have a 30 days warranty on Operating System installations and a 3 month warranty policy on ALL other faults repaired. We will cover labour and previously replaced parts but not any additional parts that may be necessary to complete the job. Please understand the volatile nature of computers, and that some problems like viruses re-occur but not necessarily due to poor service on our part. See our Terms and Conditions
Will my data be safe?
Yes your data is safe; before we carry out any complex repairs a backup of your data will be taken. We also strongly recommend that you make backup often yourself to avoid data loss.
How long will the repair take?
We always endeavour to complete a job within 3 - 4 days. Some Laptops and Apple Macs may take a bit longer if parts are needed, which we don't have in stock. If this is the case we keep you updated with an estimated time of repair.
I spilled liquid inside my computer. Is it possible to repair the damage?
It depends on how much liquid was spilled. If the computer no longer turns on you may have a defective motherboard because it was shorted out – this is an expensive repair. If the computer can turn on, but the keyboard/touchpad doesn't work then the damage may be limited and this can be repaired
Do you repair Apple (Mac) computers and laptops with screen, keyboard, hard disk, memory and other problems?
Yes, we are able to repair Apple (Mac) computers and PC Laptops. Our prices are Student Prices which means its more affordable than other shops and even Apple. We can carry out Screen and Motherboard repairs, Charger socket repairs, Upgrades, Casing repairs, Hinge repairs, Data Recovery and Password resets.
Is the Free Diagnostic Check really free?
YES!! It's totally free. This is a comprehensive hardware and software diagnostic for both Apple and Windows Laptops. The Computers are opened and checked internally, and we carry out a thorough inspection; from Cables, RAM, Battery, Liquid Damage to powering faults. In some cases in doing these checks the fault can be fixed - and we therefore charge £30 for getting your Computer up and running. We consider this to be a fair price! We can Diagnose and check things for FREE. But cannot fix for FREE.
Why does Student Computer Services work by appointments and not walk-ins?
We feel it is important to keep our operations orderly. As some of our Team members are University Staff and work during the hours of 9.00am-6.30pm - they must work to their contracts first. Furthermore to protect our staff , the nature of this work could potentially conflict with their day work, therefore our services operate in the evenings only. This works also great for Students who have lectures during the day which leaves them free to meet our Support Staff.
Where are we based? and Is this a University IT Service?
We have a registered office but do not offer a counter service! We are a collect and repair services. Once your Computer is booked in it goes through the diagnostic and repair stages. Yes we have workshops but these spaces are for access by staff only. Support Teams respond to requests by WhatsApp, FaceBook and Email and carry out Bookings and Collections , and our Technicians perform the Diagnostic and repairs. Its a system that works well for everyone and allows students to get the cheapest repair.
Is this a University IT Service ? No - we are an external service, similar to a shop - but were not exactly a shop! We help students and also carry out repairs for many Universities and Departments on request. And some of our Team members actually work for Universities. However, our Services and the IT services provided by Universities are different and separate.

Which payment methods do you accept?
We accept Cash on Collection. Or Payment by Paypal, Bank transfer or Debit / Credit Cards. Balances must be settled before collection. University Department can make payments via Purchase Order. We do NOT accept payment by Cheque.
I have data that is lost. The drive still works but I can't get to it. Can Student Computer Services recover my data?
In most cases we can. We have established a number of business partners specialising in Data Recovery - they can provide this service for us at special rates and we pass the savings to you. Please give us a call and we'll schedule an appointment for an estimate.
My laptop's screen is shattered. Can you fix it? How long will it take? Is it worth repairing?
We can repair broken laptop screens within 7 working days. It is generally worth repairing unless the system is more than four years old. It's important to note that we only use new replacement parts that are sourced from manufacturer approved resellers for the best quality repair.
My computer is running slow. Is it infected with viruses and/or spyware?
Maybe - in most cases yes. This can also happen if your system is overheating or you have a lot of (unnecessary) programs running at once. Other times you may simply need more memory to meet your usage requirements. Please call so we may help you assess the situation.
